How far would you drive to visit a friend?

I have a friend who lives several cities away. The only reason why I know her is through work. I commute a LONG ways to earn my pay.

She's nice enough, but I don't really want to travel on the weekends to hang out. Besides the fact that I don't think we have tons in common, I have friends who live a two-minute walk away. Plus, we've only known each other for a few months.

Last week, she asked if I would go to her baby shower and I cringed. I'd rather just bring her present to work.

What do you all think? Am I wrong?

As for your question Queen , I mean some people enjoy commuting. You clearly do not. Is this person worth it ? Are you better friends with her than you are with the friends that live two minutes away? Several cities, how many miles we talking about here. Over 2 hours than for a baby shower i might go but not for anything like just to hang out.

For a real friend, I'd be willing to travel across the country to be with them when they need me most. For any other folks, who are mere acquaintances I'll find an excuse not to visit them any time. So, you'll have to weigh your options to find out if you really like this person enough to burn all that gas. If the scales don't tilt in her favor then why not save your gas cash?

I used to drive 9 hours to see my then-girlfriend, although we moved in together after awhile. I drove 8 hours to see a friend a few months ago, and I'll probably do it again soon.

I don't think you are wrong, just honest, and I understand your predicament. I hate getting pressured into going to these things as well and especially so if it's such an inconvenience. I say do whatever you want with your time.

Good question, I have a best friend whom I've had since I was 9 years old and I would go to the end of the world for her. If I had the money for gas and travel fair you bet your bottom I would travel from South Carolina back to Wisconsin a thousand times over for her, the bond there is stronger than blood and as far as I'm concerned she is blood. Her children call me Auntie and I've helped her raise her son since birth, he's 12 now, she was pregnant at 15 and had him at 16 years old, if I wasn't there along with some other friends I know she wouldn't of made it and that is what she tells me as well.

Two hours maybe, unless it was an extremely attractive woman. I hate driving and I don't think I could handle driving more than two hours to see someone, I think you are safe by telling her you can't come to her baby shower. Plus gas is expensive!

I'd drive 1.5 hours to meet a great friend, if we're only friends, 20 minutes tops.

It all depends on how good of friends me and that person are. If we are really good friends and I had to drive to get to them I would probably drive a good way to get to them.

I drive for 7 hours to get to my friends, because I know them since I was a little kid. And they would do the same thing but they can't cause of their work.
