Drugs have been used as a tool to create amazing music for as long as music has been around. If you don't want to listen to music with drug references, there are plenty of straight-edge artists out there.
All drugs? Even crack and stuff?

Every video I see there is maybe some sort of hint of drugs. I cannot imagine a hip hop video without drugs nowadays but then again that all depends on the song and songwriter.

All drugs. Every last one of them. But that topic should be discussed in another, more appropriate forum/subforum.

Drugs isn't just a part of hip hop culture,it's part of culture in all popular music. It seems to be amplified in rap because so many rappers come from downtrodden neighborhoods. In neighborhoods where people are poor, and sad, drugs is what they look to for sanctuary. That's one reason you see more of it in hip hop.

The amount of Hip/Hop artists out there that use drugs as a topic to include in their lyrics to interest their listeners is about 90% so to say that drugs is not part of the hip-hop culture would be false to me

Not only is it a part of the hip hop culture but apart of the culture in general. I have a problem with it when it
destroys young promising artists, or for that matter people as a whole.

I think that drugs are a part of Hip-Hop culture, but they do not represent the whole culture nor are they integral to the culture. Many artists describe their drug use as a part of their escapism, so it is easy to see why drug culture can be seen as a huge part of the culture. I also think that drug culture is not exclusive to hip hop culture; it is seen in almost every other music genre, except for a few I would say. Personally, I think that it shouldn't matter. There are people who automatically associate Hip Hop artists with drugs, but they have probably only touched the surface of hip hop and haven't delved deeper into it. There are definitely many artists who talk about and "advocate" drug use in their songs, but there are also many who don't.

I think that the drugs are the part of Hip Hop culture, but I disagree with using the drugs just because you write and sing Hip Hop songs. People should be a little less careless about using drugs, because most of the drugs don't have any benefit in the longs run, yes they might give you strength right now, but after some time they will destroy your body and the strength you got from the drug and the strength without the drug will be gone.

It makes me sad to know how most people associate drugs to rap, or to hip hop in general. It's like saying hip hop would not exist without its relationship to drugs. But I disagree with this one. For me, drugs or addiction only becomes part of hip hop because it is just part of the story of the song, and that should be all. Just part of the story, and like every story, I hope lessons learned are also told in music. I can imagine hip hop being clean. No drugs, no violence. Just pure artistry.

Yes drugs are apart of the hip hop culture. You hear about marijuana, cocaine, crack and meth in just about every song. The artists claim to be selling drugs, or using drugs on a daily basis.

I think weed and Rap go together because many artists have admitted that weed aids in their creativity.

Check out this Rap song called "The Life" by Ca$his.

I do think that drugs are a part of culture of today's era. However, this should never be the case as drugs are nothing but killers. Any drug would only affect your health and cause trouble. It may be fun in the beginning, but when you end up addicted to it, it is not fun anymore.

You have to understand that drugs are the part of life. You cannot escape them. This has been going on since the ancient history. Hip Hop culture is huge and therefore drugs are here as well. Show me any genre (besides Christan rock lol) that isn't influenced by drugs in any way and I will counter your claim immdiately.

Drugs are part of culture, period. Most people have smoked weed or done something harder. It has nothing to do with music, but music is an expression of everything.

I wouldn't say it's a part of hip hop. It's a part of the rappers identity. Some might work better together with drugs than others. Of course many artists take inspiration for their songs through the use of drugs, but I wouldn't say you should HAVE to use them just because many other rappers do. Just be your self, don't be a tool and a hater.
