I think drugs are a huge part of the hip hop culture. Maybe its because of 2Pac and Biggie, maybe it's because others after them kept it up and made it to what it is today. It just seems to me that marijuana goes hand and hand with hip hop/rap. Well, with ALL genres of music, actually. Even the country singers smoke the stuff! I don't know about bigger drugs, though. I think marijuana is the least of all the evils in that regard.

I think it is part of hip hop culture, yes, but not exclusively. It's surely a part of rock as well since there are so many rock stars who would admit to having indulged.

Just because it's a plant doesn't mean that it isn't a drug. Opium is a plant. Does that mean it's not a drug?

Weed might legally be defined as a drug but it has lots of health benefits which is probably the reason why the drug is being legalized left and right. Using it for medicinal purposes is fine by me. Using too much of it though is what causes dependency and a lot of other problems associated with the said addiction.

Just because something has health benefits doesn't mean it isn't a drug either. Paracetamol is a drug, as is so many things you take daily for small pains and aches.

It doesn't need to be a part of the hip hop industry, but just like any industry, it is. As far as what drugs are medicinal and which ones are detrimental, I won't get into, but I would say that some artists out there are recovering addicts, some have never touched a substance, and some do.

I don't think the hardcore drugs and alcohol is a part of the hip-hop culture, I think an artist smoking some weed, and putting some vibe in their day to lay down a track definitely is. However then again I don't consider weed as a drug so many do disagree. Alcohol is apart of the life style for sure, but so many people just go above and beyond with it so it gets out of control.

It depends on what drugs you are talking.

Drugs are a part of music culture in general; it isn't specifically hip hop. As a pharmacy student, a drug enthusiast, and a proponent for the regulation of all drugs, I personally don't have a problem with it. Drugs have been used as a tool to create amazing music for as long as music has been around. If you don't want to listen to music with drug references, there are plenty of straight-edge artists out there.

It is part of the culture, but I don't really agree with it completely. I think weed is okay, but I stay away from heavier drugs.

Weed is harmless and everyone knows it. As for drugs in rap culture, I believe promoting the use of real drugs is low for any rapper, any rapper that does isn't worth listening to.

Drugs are part of every culture if you ask me. I mean even Carl Sagan, the famous scientist, smoked weed to form his ideas. Francis Crick, the scientist who discovered DNA did so while tripping on LSD. So creativity in both arts and science are associated with drugs for sure. Is that a bad thing? No, I don't think so. Drugs provide experience that helped people snap out of their suicidal tendencies, some made awesome arts, others contributed with science. And let's forget about that, drugs just provide you with a good time experience. However, everything in moderation :D

    That's my humble opinion.

Rapping is about flowing your experience and emotions out so no, I don't think that you can rule out anythig. Especially when it affects so many people...

I think drugs belong in hip hop and I'm talking about just weed, because I think it's medication, but not any other drug, and that includes alcohol
