    Christian/Gospel Hip-Hop

I hope I am not too far off base, but another thread made me think about this. The thread was asking what is everyone favorite type of rap/hip-hop. I am a fan of guys like Bizzle, Trip Lee, Andy Mineo, Mouthpi3ce and other gospel artists. There is a connotation that these guys aren't great artists, and I can understand where it comes from because a lot of the previous guys in this space, just sucked to be honest.

Since Hip-Hop has started to become watered down and nothing like I used to enjoy, I have started to listen less and less to new artist/music; and tend to stick to my older music -- The Lox, Ruff Ryders, Common, Mos Def, etc. But the guys I mentioned above, actual have pretty good production, flow and word play and appreciate that. I love the message and can fill that 'void' that hip-hop was leaving.

Just wondered if anyone else has ventured to listen to this subset of Hip-Hop?

I've only heard of unsigned artists.

Haha yeah, they both surprised me! I came into this thread not expecting much but those 2 just blew me away. I think I'm gonna listen to some Christian Rap now. Or at least to some more shit by this Andy Mineo guy.

I like some of the Christian rappers they do have mad skills Mineo. I like the fact that they can have clean lyrics and make the rap sound perfect. I think that Christian rappers are a gift from Heaven and more should be here.

A lot of the Christian rappers are great but they have just happened to of found their niche rapping about their religion. Every time a guy comes on Sunday's Best I want to make fun of him but then I end up respecting them because they still keep it tight when they flow. So there's skill there, just the topics are a bit different.

Hate me for saying this but Christian rap has never done anything for me. Most of those rappers are opportunists [refer to my first sentence] who want to make money from people [Christians] who're more likely to listen to rap than any other kind of music because they grew up hearing it all the time. I've listened to some Gospel rap and didn't like most of them except for a few like Twista/Faith Evans "Hope" song.

If anything, Christians would be less likely to listen to rap. As for them being opportunists, I'd argue quite the opposite. If they wanted to get money, they'd find a much easier way of doing it than appealing to a very small market. It's not like most people think of Christianity and rap going together that well.

I think that Christian rappers of really managed to step up their game up. There was a time when Christian rap really couldn't compare to anything in the secular world. They music was refined and it wasn't punished. The rappers didn't have great lyrics and the art wasn't truly crafted. Over time there managed to develop this skill and have become a force to reckon with. The beats in the production has really grown and developed in the style has also change with the times. Christian rappers and now up there with the best of and the music is doing well
