Was Lil Wayne overrated or did any of you actually like him?

I've listened to numerous Lil Wayne songs and to be honest I felt that the guy was no good. Surprisingly however, though the guy had no style and most of his songs were 'shallow' lots of people still liked him.
Listen to any fucking Lil Wayne song you pick, he has NO subject for any song
Sounds pretty harsh but the person who wrote that had a point in my opinion. Your thoughts on this?

Eh, I fucked with his stuff before TC4, but after that, he started to go bad.

I liked it when he would ride the beat really well, but he stopped writing his lyrics and just freestyled shit... When he stopped writing, he started to sound bad in my opinion.

But, this being said, I think he's a great artist.

His new shit actually sounds ok.

Wayne was great before, became shit, getting better again. Still not good, but he's trying at least.

I second you on that one, I have never really liked the guys songs at all, they just do not make any sense to me,you are right they have no point, but it is amazing how he is rated highly.

Anyone who have made their names that big gotta have some skills. Although he is not really my favorite, I think that guy actually know his stuffs. His last few release were good.

Lil' Wayne is pretty good in my opinion. His flow is good when he has time to write what he's rapping. If not, you get his uh.. "great" freestyle.

I really enjoy some of his mainstream stuff, especially when paired with Eminem, like No Love and Drop the World. Great songs, good beat, although the lyrics could work on some diversity.

I liked him around the time Eminem went AWOL and he legitimately was one of the best rappers around. Sometime after 2008 he stopped trying (which I suspect has something to do with influence from his signees on Young Money) which resulted in Tha Carter 3 and all subsequent albums being mediocre to terrible. Now, since he's going into retirement sometime between 2014 and 2015, it seems like he's going back into Tha Carter 2 mindset. His raps have been more lyrical, and more technical. Believe Me, Thug Cry, Dusse, Krazy, and even some of Dedication 5 have been genuinely entertaining and worth listening to.

I never thought Lil Wayne was a good songwriter myself. He may have done some decent collaborations with Drake. I just thought he was famous because he like the it factor for business with lack of talent.

He's not a bad rapper, it's just that he's not that good either and he tries as hard as he can to be unoriginal.

He used to be a solid rapper. But he was never the best rapper alive, or even top 5. His recent albums have been terrible. If he wasn't so overrated he wouldn't get so much hate but people exaggerate how good he used to be.

I don't agree with that comment. Lil Wayne is actually a very talented artist. My only problem is the music release to mainstream tend to have no substance. Lil Wayne is not an ignorant man. He is very smart but I feel as of now the demand by mainstream corporate pressure on these artists have them releasing music that is not at all representative of their artistry in the game.
