What do you consider "old school"

Without giving my age I can say that I have listened to just about everything from the 50s until current times. What do others here consider old school? What is a song that never goes out of style or brings a smile to your face anytime you hear it? Could you name a song for the last 5 decades?

I'd say anything that's more than two decades old would be considered "old school." Music is such an important part of my life that I couldn't name one song that is from another era that makes me happy. I listen to all different genres and they each fit into my life in their own way.

My music spans so much it is hard to keep track of it. I tend to apply "old school" to each decade I guess. When I think of 80s rap as an example these four pop into my head; Public Enemy, Slick Rick, N.W.A. & 2Live Crew. When I think about the 90s it was just taken over with a bunch of rock and pop. I tend to apply "old school" to each decade I guess.

You'd have to go back a certain amount of time though, right? I mean, would you call something from 2008 (last decade) old school? Does old school start in the 90s for you?

Old school just means old. Good old school song- Pretty Woman. I think most of you have heard that one.

I guess the older I get the fewer years I drop off. Anything 10 years ago could apply but I tend to avoid songs that have been remade over and over again. For some reason those never make the list for me.

I agree about the remade songs. In most cases, the original is what I like best, but there are a few exceptions. I also see what you're saying about "the older you get, the fewer years" because it seems to me that the older I get, the faster the time goes and, therefore, old school becomes old school that much quicker.

I am pretty sure if that was left off the list many people would be upset over it. I remember one time when my oldest was a few months old, he really loved music from what we could see. More of the beat than the music, so yea, he got a little N.W.A. to go with everything else. Why hold should I hold my kids back from experiencing all music can give? I got a little bit of a talking to from some people that disagreed with it too.
