Parents who limit music to their kids

Do we have any parents like that here, or maybe those who had parents like that? I know my parents tried it but it never really got that far in my house. I don't limit what my kids listen to because I want them to experience all of life and make up their own minds. Is that bad of me as a parent nowadays?

No your doing the right thing.. My parents tried to stop me, and it doesn't work in this day and age with technology.

I won't censor what my daughter listens to when she is older, but for now I do keep her from listening to anything with explicit lyrics because she's only five. I think you're doing the right thing by giving your kids freedom of music.

Once there 14 I think it's ok to listen to explicit music but five is young lol.

Nah. My mother doesn't stop me from listening to whatever music because I'm not the type of person to reiterate what a person says they do in a song.

I remember my mother trying to do the same and that did not work. It also did not help that anytime she tried to bring it up my rebuttal was that her teen fan (Elvis) was ban from the waist down on television. I mean really, with that as your teen idol you can censor what I listen to?

If I have a kid I would definitely monitor what he/she listens too. But lets face it after a certain age, parents are powerless over social media, technology and influence of friends and society. We can only guide them the right way and hope they make the right decisions. I'd say up to high school you can control them somewhat. Also depends on the kid of course.

Parents make things worse when they try to control what type of music their kids listen to. I know because they tried it with me and it only made me listen to more of it. They should let it be as long as their kids don't copy all the stupid stuff they hear in music, like shooting people, stealing or worshipping satan. Sooner or later they'll grow out of it. I sure did.
